A Dip a Day in March

Dip a Day in March

I'm dipping in cold water every day in March for St Wilfrid's Hospice

Throughout the whole of March, I'll be taking a cold plunge in the sea, an ice bath, a pool or a cold shower, every single day to raise vital funds for St Wilfrid's Hospice. I would be so grateful for any donation, big or small, that you can give to help me reach my target.

St Wilfrid's Hospice provides high-quality care and support for people across Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, Uckfield, Healthfield, and all points between, with life-limiting illnesses. Support is offered at the hospice, in patients' own homes, and in care homes. Over 70% of the funds to provide these services come from voluntary donations. Please help me continue to support this cause.

Day 23

Monday 23rd Mar
Anna’s away this week, so it’s back to cold showers for me, whilst she enjoys sunny dips in a much warmer sea.

Fear not, we’ll be back on the beach in Eastbourne throwing ourselves in the sea at the weekend.

We seem to attract a certain amount of curiosity from passing dog walkers and families. Be a shame to let them down, or the hospice for that matter!

Day 22

Sunday 22nd Mar
Brrrr it was a cold one today. Weather had turned this afternoon from a warm sunny day to grey skies and a chilly breeze.

We dipped and then warmed up at the Glass House with hot chocolates,  but they didn’t touch our toes.

Day 21

Saturday 21st Mar
From wedding suit to bathing suit. Been a busy day.

So lovely to be sea dipping again with Anna and even lovelier to have a glass of fizz in the sunshine afterwards with her and our gorgeous friend Angie.

Day 20

Friday 20th Mar
I had a wedding today and met up with my dear friend Jacqui for a cuppa afterwards at The Depot, so no time to dip. Cold shower will have to do.

Looking forward to catching up with Anna tomorrow and sea dipping over the weekend.

Day 19

Thursday 19th Mar
Oh to be paddling in the sea! Was frothy and cold, but lovely to get my toes wet and sit on the shingle in the sunshine.

What better way to start the day?

Day 18

Thursday 19th Mar
Cold shower to start the day before work. So lovely and sunny out was a shame not to be dipping. Enjoyed a warm dog walk and Miller met lots of his mates. I seem to know all the dogs’ names and none of their owners.

Lots of tea room chat at work about hot cross buns. I tried the M&S lemon curd ones when I got home. Can highly recommend.

Day 17

Tuesday 17th Mar
Another cold shower to start the day. Doesn’t get any easier or warmer for that matter.

Looking forward to some sea dips later in the week.

Day 16

Monday 16th Mar
Working this week and Anna’s away,  sea dips will have to wait until end of the week.

Cold showers…brrr!

Day 15

Sunday 15th Mar
Windy today. We were out with the kite surfers and some very athletic looking swimmers in wetsuits.

They looked sleek like seals. Us considerably less so.

Day 14

Saturday 14th Mar
Yay my wishes were granted. Woke up to beautiful Spring sunshine streaming in my bedroom window.

Anna and I dipped in the sparkly sea and sat on beach to dry off.

I popped to St Wilfrid’s Hospice charity shop on way home and found these sparkly shoes.

All in all a sunny sparkly day.

If you can’t throw yourself in the sea for the hospice, do pop down to its lovely charity shop. An easy way to show your support for such a good cause and not quite as cold & wet as having a dip!

Day 13

Saturday 14th Mar
Worked all day before popping out for a hot chocolate at my favourite cafe Hyde Corner.

Hoping spring will come soon and we can get back to sea dipping in the sunshine.

Day 12

Thursday 12th Mar
Took one look at the waves this morning and realised that dipping would have to wait for another day.

Cold showers it is until the wind settles down.

Went up to London for hospital appointment today and visited my son at work afterwards. Mother’s Day treat to myself.

Pic is of the beautiful Blues Kitchen in Shoreditch, his hospitality gig when he’s not performing his own music. I’m a proud mum groupie.

Day 11

Wednesday 11th Mar
Blues skies at last! Too bad I’m stood on the platform waiting for my delayed train to work and not dipping in the sea!

Cold showers are becoming a bit too regular for my liking. Looking forward to Anna returning from London and we can go for a dip again.

Waves look a bit too big for tomorrow. Will have to wait and see. Or should that be wait and sea?!

Day 10

Tuesday 10th Mar
So today’s challenge is spot the pier?!

Another misty one.

Had a cold shower this morning as off to work today. I am no longer going to moan about how freezing it was after reading about a chap, who has had almost 600 ice baths in a row as he is trying to overcome his addiction. Brave man.

I hope to venture back into the sea later this week, assuming the mist lifts and I can find it.

Day 9

Monday 9th Mar
First challenge of the day. Where is the sea?

Will have to pop back later to dip, or make an alternative plan.

Day 8

Sunday 8th Mar
Gosh I have been cooped up all weekend with my cold. Missing the sea dips and Miller is a bit miffed about only going for a walk around the block.

Hopefully normal service will resume tomorrow on the dipping and dog walking front.

Today I had a cold shower just before I was getting ready to go to the theatre to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra, which cheered me up no end. I’m not even going to bother complaining about the cold shower, or my cold.

I put on my sparkliest skirt, which seemed to attract an host of admirers at the theatre. Lovely to meet so many friendly people, who love a bit of sparkle as much as I do.

I had an amazing time listening to my favourite music and felt so grateful to live in such a warm and welcoming community with such wonderful services like the hospice.

Day 7

Saturday 7th Mar
Well sea dipping is going to have to wait for a few days, whilst I recover from a streaming cold.
Which means I’m back to facing my nemesis - cold showers!

Dosed up on hot lemon and honey and aching all over, I ease into a hot shower. After ten soothing minutes I turn the dial to cold.

Yup. Still a shock to the system, but at least I can warm back up quickly and get dressed back into my pj’s for a restful day on the sofa.

My sea dipping buddy is staying at a spa hotel in Brighton complete with a cold rain shower.
Wonder if that’s any better than mine?!

Day 6

Friday 6th Mar
Just a toe / paw dip today with my dog Miller. Ooh the sea is cold this morning.

I got home in the wee small hours of the morning after going to my son’s gig in London last night. Such an incredible night.

Train broke down on way home, so I didn't get quite as much sleep as I might have liked before waking up with a pounding headache. Probably a combination of the loud music and a very late night.

Morning sea dip postponed. Morning paddle on dog walk will have to suffice!

Day 5

Thursday 5th Mar
Such glorious sunshine, we were actually looking forward to our dip today. Gathered a bit of an audience of dog walkers and passers by as we waded into the water.

Waves were quite strong so we took our time before having a dip and a bit of a swim.

Felt like a summer’s day. Water still very cold but clear and sparkly under the sun’s rays.

Dried off on the shingle without the need for snuggling up in our dry robes. Though we changed underneath them to avoid accidentally flashing people on the seafront. That wouldn’t be the kind of headlines the hospice would want!

Thrilled to see we are both in the top 10 of the fundraising leaderboard. Thanks to all our supporters. Today felt like a treat rather than a challenge!

Day 4

Wednesday 4th Mar
We are reunited for a late afternoon dip in the sunshine.

Don’t let it fool you. The sea is still cold in this gorgeous Spring sunshine.

In fact it felt even colder today!

Day 3

Tuesday 3rd Mar
If there’s an art to cold showers, I am sure I have yet to discover it.

Today I tried my friend Kirsty’s technique. Enjoy a nice hot shower and then turn down the dial for a blast of cold water at the end.

Hmm…. a startling way to start the day!

Still think I prefer the sea. At least you can acclimatise ankles first!

Roll on tomorrow and I’ll be back on the beach tip toeing over shingle towards the sparkly sea with Anna my Dip a Day buddy.

Wonder what she’s up to today?

Day 2

Monday 2nd Mar
So today was a cold shower day, rather than a sea dip, as I am teaching at work until 6pm. A bit too late to travel home and throw myself in the sea!

I think I prefer the sea! Missed my sea dip buddy.

Cold shower was a shock to the system this morning, but at least I didn’t have to walk home before having a hot shower to warm up!

So in awe of Anna’s cold plunge and cold shower today. She is amazing!

Day 1

Sunday 1st Mar
Cold grey day here in Eastbourne, but we braved the sea for our first dip!

It didn’t last long and was freezing!

Rewarded with hot tea from our flasks, sat on a nearby bench, whilst marvelling at a murmuration over the pier.

Dip a Day

Sunday 22nd Feb
For the month of March, I will be doing a dip a day to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

I’ve teamed up with Anna, my sea dipping friend and together we hope to brave the cold water every single day, either in the sea, or the shower, depending on the weather and the waves!

I would be really grateful if you could show your support by sponsoring me.

I will keep you updated (and hopefully entertained) with posts throughout the month. Let’s hope Spring comes soon and we have some sunshine to bring a little sparkle to the cold, cold sea!

Thank you to my Sponsors
