Rainbow Run

Hi, I'm taking part in St Wilfrid’s Hospice’s Rainbow Run on Saturday 18th May

Our beautiful Emma sadly passed in the early hours of the 9th September 2023. After 2 years of trying to fight the cancer within and spending months in hospital followed by constant care at home either from my brother or carers from the hospice, Emma wanted to spend her time at St Wilfreds Hospice where she spent her last few weeks with us.  We could not have asked for a better place for her to have been, she loved it. When she was able to, she was wheeled out into the garden where she would spend all day sitting and enjoying the peace and calm of their beautiful garden, even getting a little sunburnt! Who knew we were going to appreciate and need this special place ourselves.
We got the call on the Monday to say that things had progressed. Emma had wanted a group of us with her at the end so we all rushed down there. oh how we underestimated her strength, she clung on for a few more days and was keeping us laughing to the very end.
It was some of the hardest of times I've ever had but it was also the best few days. All of us being able to stay with Emma, be it sleeping on reclining chairs, pull out beds or inflatable mattresses, was what made it all the more easier to enjoy those last precious moments with her. We all bonded and spent many an hour either sitting alone with Emma, wandering around the garden in our own thoughts, to all of us sitting together in the garden talking, laughing and crying.
Being given this opportunity is all down to the fantastic work of every single person at the hospice, including whoever makes those amazing cakes (I think we all left slightly fatter than when we arrived). Everyone was incredible in looking after Emma as well as making sure we were all ok and giving us the precious time we needed in our final days with Emma.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice provides high-quality care and support for people across Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, Uckfield, Heathfield (and all points between) with life-limiting illnesses, and any money raised will allow them to continue to provide this to the community. Tea & cake

Tuesday 26th Mar
Stopped at the hospice to grab my fundraising pot and form and couldn't resist one of the cakes and cuppa and a sit in the garden. I cant quite bring myself go round to "Emmas hut" as we called it but the other gardens are just as lovely.
If you're ever at a loose end in Eastbourne,  head to the Hospice off Broadwater Way,  anyone can go in and grab some food and have a sit down, it's not just for visitors of patients.

Mountains, your a beautiful human being and I'm sure Emma knew that. You told me so much about her, I wished I could have met her in person to experience that laugh and sense of humour. Well done you for doing the run, I've seen how attached your are to sitting down. Love to you and Matt and all the family. Love always , Legs xx
