Clinical skills workshops

Enhance your practice with five clinical skills workshops, designed to help professionals refresh, update, and advance their clinical expertise.

Workshops are included in the all-access one- and two-day passes and you are guaranteed at least one workshop per day. Depending on availability, additional workshops will be available to book on the day.

Resuscitation (Adult Basic & Immediate Life Support)

Simulation-based workshop focusing on recognition of cardiac arrest and effective resuscitation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise cardiac arrest and initiate resuscitation following current guidelines
  • Perform high-quality CPR (rate, depth, recoil)
  • Demonstrate safe and effective use of an AED/defibrillator
  • Work effectively within a resuscitation team, maintaining clear communication
  • Identify post-resuscitation priorities and escalation pathways

PEG feeding and care (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)

Practical workshop on safe management of PEG feeding and enteral nutrition.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the indications and care principles of PEG feeding
  • Demonstrate safe administration of enteral feeds and medications
  • Perform routine PEG site care and identify signs of infection or complications
  • Troubleshoot common PEG-related problems (e.g., blockage, displacement)
  • Promote patient dignity and comfort during feeding procedures

Compassionate Communities: Compassion in practice

Workshop supporting people to talk openly about death, dying, loss and grief.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand Compassionate Communities as a public health approach to palliative and end of life care.
  • Reflect on the language we use and build confidence and skill.
  • Examine why these conversations matter and the practical and emotional implications if we avoid them.
  • Learn how social, cultural, and community networks contribute to an individual’s health and wellbeing.
  • Challenge common misconceptions about hospice services.

Urinary catheterisation

Skills-based workshop focusing on safe male and female catheter insertion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand indications and contraindications for urinary catheterisation
  • Demonstrate correct aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT)
  • Safely insert and secure a urinary catheter (male and/or female)
  • Recognise and prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs)
  • Provide appropriate patient communication and aftercare advice

Venepuncture

Hands-on practical workshop to develop competency in vascular access.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Identify suitable veins and select appropriate equipment
  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation using aseptic technique
  • Demonstrate safe infection prevention and control practices
  • Recognise and manage potential complications (e.g., haematoma, infiltration)
  • Communicate effectively with patients to ensure consent and comfort

Start the second day of the St Wilfrid’s Healthcare Expo with a relaxed and informal networking breakfast at the East Sussex National Hotel.

Open to everyone, not just healthcare professionals, this is an excellent opportunity to connect with local businesses, healthcare providers, community organisations, and professionals from across Sussex while enjoying breakfast in a welcoming environment.

Whether you're looking to build new relationships, explore collaborative opportunities, raise awareness of your organisation, or simply meet like-minded professionals, the networking breakfast provides the perfect setting to make valuable connections before the day begins.
