I'm running the 2026 Eastbourne Half Marathon for local hospice care

My name is Josh and I’m running the half marathon for Saint Wilfrid’s  Hospice and I am hoping you can sponsor me . I just wanted to tell you a bit about why I’m doing this. My family has lived with cancer for many years now and all four of my grandparents have been through it and two are still living with it now, but luckily to date they are all survivors. 

However, my fiancée Laura and her family were not so lucky. Her grandfather David Anderson died of cancer in October last year and in the last 9 days of his life he was cared for by Saint Wilfrid’s  Hospice. That care was second to none and was something I had both the honour  and the sadness to be part of. David was cared for with compassion, kindness and a respect I did not know was possible . He knew that at the point he had lost his fight with cancer he would have to be admitted to a hospice. What we as a family were  so grateful and thankful for was that it was Saint Wilfrid’s.

The Hospice ,as you  probably know , runs on donations and it’s why I  am taking part in this  half marathon . It’s my way of helping Laura and her family pay the hospice back not only for the care he received but also how they were looked after too . They didn’t just make  David’s last days comfortable they made it bearable for the whole family. 

Laura can’t run this distance but I can for her . So I hope by sponsoring me you’ll help me as part of her family give something back to St Wilfrid’s and ensure that other families who are going through what they went through have the benefit of this loving compassionate and excellent care in the future.
